Here’s something about me: I run cold. Really cold 🥶 (the Caribbean kid in me never left).
I spent seven winters in Chicago, so I know how hard it is to look put together when it’s freezing. Most winter coats either keep you warm or look good, but rarely both.
That’s why I keep coming back to Quince coats. The quality is great, the colors are gorgeous, and they’re made to last for years, at a fraction of what you’d pay elsewhere.
I own 4 of them, so this Quince coats review mixes my honest notes with 11 more picks, sorted by temperature from mild fall days all the way to -48°F (-44°C).
Here’s what you’ll learn today:
✅ Which coat to pick for your temperature, with Quince’s rating AND how warm the ones I own actually feel
✅ My honest notes on the 4 coats I own (fit, sizing, and what I’d change)

Quince coats are some of the best value winter coats you can buy, from $70 to $500 and in lots of colors. For truly cold weather, the Responsible Down Long Puffer (rated -48°F / -44°C) and the Hooded Long Parka (rated -33°F / -36°C) are the warmest, while the Wool Cashmere Cocoon Coat is my pick for everyday winter style.

🌡️ Which Quince Coats to Wear at Which Temperature
Every piece of Quince outerwear below lists its temperature rating. In my opinion brand ratings are always optimistic (and I run cold), so for the coats I own I’ve added how warm they actually feel on me.
- Responsible Down Long Puffer and Responsible Down Puffer Jacket: rated -48°F (-44°C)
- Hooded Long Parka: rated -33°F (-36°C), and it’s waterproof
- Wool coats: rated 4°F to 13°F (-16°C to -11°C). I wear my cocoon coat in the 20s °F (-7°C to -1°C)
- Featherless puffers: rated 3°F (-16°C). I wear my featherless puffer jacket in the 30s and 40s °F (-1°C to 9°C)
- Packable puffer: rated 2°F (-17°C). I bring mine on trips in the 50s °F (10°C to 15°C)
- Faux fur and shearling: no rating listed, so think chilly days and dressier nights
- Trench coats: no rating listed. I wear my short trench in the 50s and 60s °F (10°C to 20°C), never below 55°F (13°C)
💡 These ratings assume you’re layered up. My layering system is further down, and it makes a HUGE difference.
🎨 How to Pick Your Coat Colors
You don’t need 5 winter coats. One short, one long, and one dressy is plenty.
A neutral is always the easiest choice, but if you want to add some fun to your winter outfits, pick a color that works with your coloring.
Want a winter coat aesthetic that’s more than black? This is where it starts.
If you’ve had your colors done, you already know your season. Here are the coat colors that work best for each one:
If you’re a Spring: ivory, light khaki, camel, coral, and tomato red
If you’re a Summer: heather grey, smokey taupe, dusty rose, slate blue, and soft navy
If you’re an Autumn: caramel, cocoa, chocolate, olive, and burgundy
If you’re a Winter: black, atlas navy, nocturnal green, true red, and charcoal
💡 Know your exact season, like Soft Autumn or Deep Winter? Just go with your main season’s colors above.
You can also keep your coat neutral and bring in your other colors with a scarf.
For example, if you’re a Spring, go for a light khaki coat and add a tomato red scarf. You get the color near your face, where it matters most, and a coat that goes with everything.
🏔️ The Quince Parka for Snow and Wind
1️⃣ Responsible Down Hooded Long Parka
If you’re heading somewhere truly cold, snowy, or windy, this Quince down coat is the one.
It’s waterproof and fully seam-sealed, windproof, and filled with 700+ fill goose down. The hood has 3 pieces, including a removable faux fur ruff.
The detail I love: interior backpack straps, so you can carry it hands-free once you walk into a warm museum or restaurant.
It’s $200, has 804 reviews, and comes in 5 colors (4 core plus 1 limited edition). Atlas navy is shown here.
🌡️ Rated: -33°F (-36°C)
💡 Heads up: a little down may poke out during the first few wears. Totally normal for a down coat, so don’t panic 😉
Want it shorter? There’s also a short version of this parka.
🧥 Quince Long Puffers
A long Quince puffer coat is the warmest shape you can wear, because it covers your legs. If you’re looking for long coat outfits for women that actually keep you warm, start here.
2️⃣ Responsible Down Long Puffer Jacket
This is probably the coolest looking puffer Quince makes. It comes in a shiny version and a regular one, in a ton of colors.
🌡️ Rated: -48°F (-44°C). I would not want to be in that temperature, but hey, at least there’s a coat for it 😅
It’s 700+ fill down, water-repellent and wind-resistant (not waterproof), with a removable hood, thumbhole cuffs, and fleece-lined snap pockets.
It’s $210 in shiny, has 4,255 reviews, and comes in 13 core colors plus 2 limited editions. Shiny bitter chocolate is shown here.
💡 Use the side vent snaps. Opening them at the bottom makes a long puffer so much easier to walk (and sit) in.
Prefer it shorter? It also comes in a mid-length version and a cropped version.
3️⃣ Featherless Quilted Puffer Long Coat
If you’d rather skip down, Quince’s featherless puffers are a nice option, whether you’re vegan or just don’t want feathers. They’re less warm than down, so keep that in mind.
This long version works better for colder days than my shorter featherless jacket (more on that one below) because it’s longer. Covering more of your legs makes a HUGE difference.
It’s knee length and collarless, with a zip front and onion quilting.
It’s $105, has 444 reviews, and comes in 4 core colors plus 3 limited editions. Smokey taupe is shown here.
🌱 Vegan friendly: no feathers or down
🌡️ Rated: 3°F (-16°C)
🐑 Quince Wool Coats
A Quince wool coat is the dressiest Quince winter coat you can get. It works with jeans on errand days and with a dress for dinners out.
4️⃣ Wool Cashmere Cocoon Coat
My Wool Cashmere Cocoon Coat is in caramel, size S. It’s warm and so stylish 🧥
Here’s my coat outfit with it, so you can see how it actually looks on.
For reference, I’m 5’4″ (163 cm) and about 130 lbs (59 kg). The sleeves run a little long on me (I have that problem with almost every coat 😅).
I thought about sizing down to XS, but then it wouldn’t fit over my shoulders with a sweater underneath, and I wouldn’t be able to move my arms. If you layer, stick with your usual size.
Quince rates it down to 4°F (-16°C). I run cold, so I wear mine in the 20s °F (-7°C to -1°C) with a merino base layer, a cashmere sweater, accessories, and wool socks.
It’s fully lined with horn buttons, it’s $175, and it has 899 reviews. It comes in 8 colors: 6 core colors and 2 limited editions.
💡 Coats rarely need washing. I’ve never washed mine (maybe at the end of the season, if it needs it).

5️⃣ Double-Faced Merino Wool Draped Collar Wrap Coat
If you want a Quince long coat that makes ANY outfit look polished, this is it. It’s a different coat from the cocoon, not just a longer version.
It’s long, so it’s great if you’re tall. I’d love it for myself, but at 5’4″ it would be too long on me.
It’s $200, has 681 reviews, and comes in 6 colors (cocoa melange shown). Quince rates it down to 13°F (-11°C).
Want the same look shorter? There’s a short wrap coat too.
6️⃣ Wool Cashmere Blazer Coat
If you want a Quince wool jacket with a more tailored look, this one is cut like a long blazer, with notched lapels and a single button.
It’s 90% wool and 10% cashmere, fully lined, and rated down to 4°F (-16°C). It’s $200, has 369 reviews, and comes in 6 colors.
I really hope Quince brings back more of the nocturnal green, because it’s running low on stock as I write this.
💡 Want room for a chunky sweater underneath? Go for the slouch version with an oversized fit.

🧥 Before you buy a coat, find out what your closet actually needs
Most of us have a coat that barely gets worn because it doesn’t go with anything else we own.
My closet quiz takes about a minute. You’ll get your results in your inbox, showing what your wardrobe is missing, so the coat you pick works with the clothes you already have.
Answer a couple of quick questions to find out what your closet needs ⬇️
✨ Quince Faux Fur and Shearling Coats
These aren’t your everyday coats. They’re for chilly days and fancier occasions, when you want your coat to be the outfit.
Looking for a Quince fur coat? The first two are faux, so they’re vegan friendly.
7️⃣ Faux Fur Maxi Wrap Coat
If you want a Quince black coat that feels special, this is it. It’s maxi length with a shawl collar and a tie belt, in faux mink.
It’s $150, has 67 reviews, and comes in 3 colors (black shown).
🌱 Vegan friendly: faux mink, no animal fur
💡 The tie belt is optional, so you can wear it open over a dress or wrapped closed when it’s colder.
8️⃣ Faux Fur Long Coat
This Quince faux fur jacket in a long length is for chilly days, and it’s a great option for fancier occasions.
It’s 100% recycled polyester faux mink, fully lined, with tiered panels, a hidden snap front, and side slit pockets. It has 341 reviews and comes in 4 colors (latte shown).
There’s no temperature rating listed, so I’d treat it as a dressy layer, not your warmest coat.
🌱 Vegan friendly: faux mink, no animal fur
Prefer something shorter? There’s a short version with a hood.
9️⃣ 100% Shearling Cold Weather Bomber Jacket
This is the splurge of the post at $500, and it’s a best seller with 261 reviews.
It’s real sheepskin (so not vegan), it has a hood, and it only comes in black.
💡 It runs large, so size down if you’re between sizes.
There’s no temperature rating listed, but shearling is naturally warm, and this Quince winter jacket is a nice change from a closet full of long coats.
🪶 Quince Puffer Jackets
If you’re shopping Quince women’s jackets for everyday winter, shorter puffers are easier to move in and easier to pack. Here are the 2 I own, plus Quince’s warmest short one.
🔟 Featherless Quilted Long Puffer Jacket
Mine is barolo burgundy, size XS. It’s called a long puffer jacket, but it’s really more of a short coat (trench coats are longer).
XS fits perfectly on the arms, but it’s tight at the hips (it closes, but it’s tight). I’m still deciding whether to size up for longer arms or keep the more flattering fit, so stay tuned 😅
My honest Quince puffer review: it’s not that warm in real life. Quince rates it to 3°F (-16°C), but I wear mine in the 30s and 40s °F (-1°C to 9°C) with a merino base layer, a cashmere sweater, and accessories.
This Quince quilted jacket packs quite small for a puffer, which I love for travel. It’s $100, has 2,410 reviews, and comes in 7 core colors plus 3 limited editions.
🌱 Vegan friendly: no feathers or down
💡 Limited edition colors sell out and disappear after the season, so if you see one you like, get it.
Here’s my puffer jacket outfit in it, so you can see the color in real life.

1️⃣1️⃣ Lightweight Down Packable Puffer Hooded Jacket
To be clear, this isn’t a coat. I’m including it because it’s the most travel friendly option in this post, for trips in the 50s °F (10°C to 15°C).
Mine is the hooded version in loden (an olive green), size S, and it fits perfectly.
The Quince lightweight down packable puffer jacket is 700+ fill goose down, water-repellent, and it packs into its own internal chest pocket. It has an adjustable hood and a 2-way zip.
It’s $70, has 1,815 reviews, and Quince rates it to 2°F (-17°C). Shadow green is shown here, and it’s the lightest Quince down jacket in this post.
Prefer a sleeker look? There’s also a hoodless version, and it comes in different colors too.
1️⃣2️⃣ Responsible Down Puffer Jacket
This is the hip length version of the long puffer above, so you get the same 700+ fill down in a shorter coat.
It’s rated to -48°F (-44°C), water-repellent and wind-resistant, with knit storm cuffs and a hood. It’s $150, has 2,189 reviews, and comes in 12 core colors plus 3 limited editions.
💡 If you live somewhere freezing but don’t love long coats, this is the Quince puffer to get.
Want more coverage? Go for the long version, or the cropped version if you want it even shorter.
🧥 Quince Trench Coats
Trench coats are for fall, spring, and mild winters. They’re water-resistant, not waterproof, so they’re fine in a drizzle but not a downpour.
1️⃣3️⃣ Comfort Stretch Short Trench Coat
My trench is the Comfort Stretch Short Trench Coat in light khaki, size XS, and it fits perfectly.
I wear it in the 50s and 60s °F. When it gets colder, I use my layering system underneath (merino base layer, then a sweater).
But I don’t wear it below 55°F (13°C). If your trip runs colder than that, go with one of the coats above.
It’s 98% organic cotton with a little stretch, fully lined, and it has a removable tie belt. It’s $90 and comes in 6 colors.
It also comes in mid-length and long versions, but they have more fabric. For travel, I recommend the short one, especially if you’re 5’4″ or shorter.
If you’re tall, the long one is worth a look (it’s very long).
🌡️ Best for: 50s and 60s °F (10°C to 20°C), layered as it gets colder
💡 Fit tip: it fits longer on me than on the model because I’m 5’4″, so if you’re short too, expect it to hit a little lower

1️⃣4️⃣ Comfort Stretch Trench Coat (Mid-Length)
If you want more coverage, the Comfort Stretch Trench Coat is the mid-length version of mine. Same double-breasted shape and tie belt, but it hits closer to the knee.
The tradeoff: more fabric. It takes up more space in a carry-on, which is why I picked the short one for travel.
But if you love the longer look, it works on any height.
It’s $100, has 864 reviews, and comes in 6 colors. Bayberry olive is shown here, and it just came back in stock.
It also comes in a short version (the one I own) and a long version, which is very long, so I’d only recommend it if you’re tall.
🌡️ Best for: 50s and 60s °F (10°C to 20°C), layered as it gets colder
1️⃣5️⃣ Stretch Crepe Trench Coat
For an even more minimalist look, the Stretch Crepe Trench Coat has no buttons at all. It closes with a tie belt, and the wide collar gives it a really elegant neckline.
The crepe fabric is wrinkle-resistant, so it comes out of your bag looking ready to wear. It’s $100, has 986 reviews, it’s a best seller, and it comes in 6 colors.
🌡️ Best for: 50s and 60s °F (10°C to 20°C), layered as it gets colder
💡 Styling tip: no buttons means a cleaner line, so it looks dressier than a classic trench

🧶 How to Layer Under Your Coat
A coat is only half of staying warm. What you wear under it matters just as much, especially if you run cold like me.
I use the same 3 layers every time:
1️⃣ Base layer: a thin merino wool base layer against your skin. It traps heat without adding bulk.
2️⃣ Middle layer: a cashmere sweater (or a cardigan or wool knit). This is your warmth.
3️⃣ Your coat: picked for the temperature, using the ratings above.
That’s how I’m comfortable in my cocoon coat in the 20s °F, and in my featherless puffer in the 30s and 40s °F.
💡 Leave room for your layers when you pick a coat size. I sized up from XS to S in my cocoon coat so it fits over a sweater.

🧤 Winter Accessories That Make Any Coat Warmer
Accessories are the cheapest way to make any coat warmer. Cover your head, neck, hands, and feet, and you’ll feel the difference right away (I always do, since I run cold).
- A cashmere wrap that works as a scarf on cold days (mine feels like a warm hug)
- A cashmere beanie (mine is pink, and it’s a regular part of my fall and winter outfits)
- Lined gloves
- Merino wool socks (cold feet make your whole body feel cold)
- Fleece lined tights under your pants on the coldest days

Quince Coats FAQ
Are Quince coats good?
Yes. I own 4 of them (a wool cocoon coat, a featherless puffer, a packable puffer, and a trench), and the quality is great for the price. The one honest note: the featherless puffers are less warm than they’re rated, so pick down if warmth is your top priority.
Are Quince coats warm?
It depends on the coat. The Responsible Down puffers are rated down to -48°F (-44°C) and the parka to -33°F (-36°C), while the wool coats are rated 4°F to 13°F (-16°C to -11°C). Brand ratings are optimistic, so I wear my wool coat in the 20s °F and my featherless puffer in the 30s and 40s °F.
What is the warmest Quince coat?
The Responsible Down Long Puffer Jacket, rated down to -48°F (-44°C), because it’s 700+ fill down and covers your legs. For snow and wind, the Hooded Long Parka is the better pick since it’s fully waterproof.
Is the Quince wool coat worth it?
In my opinion, yes. My Wool Cashmere Cocoon Coat is warm, so stylish, and $175, which is a lot less than most wool and cashmere coats. Just leave room for a sweater underneath when you pick your size.
How do Quince coats fit?
Most fit true to size, but it depends on how much you layer. I’m 5’4″ and about 130 lbs: I wear an S in the cocoon coat and the packable puffer, and an XS in the featherless puffer and the short trench. The shearling bomber runs large, so size down if you’re between sizes.
Is the Quince puffer jacket waterproof?
No. The Responsible Down puffers are water-repellent and wind-resistant, which handles light snow and drizzle. If you need fully waterproof, go for the Hooded Long Parka, which is seam-sealed.
How do you wash a Quince coat?
Honestly, I’ve never washed mine. Coats rarely need it, maybe once at the end of the season, so check the care label on yours before you do.
