Spring break is just around the corner, and you’re probably daydreaming about sunny beaches, fun nights out, and a much-needed break from the daily grind. But before the relaxation can begin, there’s one thing standing between you and paradise: packing 🙈.
If you’re someone who tends to over-pack (we’ve all been there), don’t worry! I’ve got you covered with five foolproof spring break packing tips to keep things simple, stylish, and stress-free.
From preparing for beach days the right way, to planning your evening outfits like a pro, these tips will help you pack smarter, not heavier.
Instead of over-packing, you’ll learn to focus on versatility, comfort, and style with these 5 genius spring break packing tips. It is possible to travel light, while packing everything you need and LOVING your travel outfits!
🧳 Let’s dive in and make your spring break packing a breeze!
1. PREPARE FOR BEACH DAYS THE RIGHT WAY 🏖️
Beach days are likely at the top of your spring break agenda, so you’ll want to make sure you have all the essentials to enjoy the sun and sand.
Start with a quality cover-up. Something lightweight and easy to throw on over your swimsuit when you need a break from the water. Flowy dresses, kaftans, and tunics work great for this! But you know what my favorite piece is? A button down linen shirt!
A straw hat is also a must to protect your face and hair from the sun. And of course, don’t forget sunscreen and chapstick. You’ll want to keep your skin and lips safe from harmful UV rays while you enjoy the beach.
🎯 Pro spring break packing tip: Don’t just pack a regular swimsuit! A one-piece bathing suit can easily double as a bodysuit when paired with the right shorts or skirts. This trick helps you maximize everything in your suitcase, while allowing you to transition from beach to casual outings with ease.
And don’t forget that instead of packing a giant bag for your beach days, simply bring a packable tote bag. It will fit all your beach essentials and you can easily pack it because it folds so nicely!
👉🏻 Don’t pack a beach towel. Ask your accommodation if they provide them. They usually do at beach destinations.

2. PLAN ALL YOUR EVENING OUTFITS IN ADVANCE 🌙
Packing the right pieces to wear for evening events can be tricky, but a little planning goes a long way.
By selecting versatile pieces, you can mix and match to create multiple outfits without over-packing.
My top recommendations for evening outfits include a matching top and bottom set. Think a flowy blouse and matching skirt or a chic two-piece suit.
These combinations are not only comfortable but also perfect for dinners, night outs, or casual drinks. And the best part? You can style both pieces separately for your every day outfits as well!
I traveled with this top & bottom set for over a year and styled it in SO MANY different ways ⬇️
My top 3 places to buy the cutest top/bottom sets:
Budget (sustainable) – Medium (sustainable) – Premium (sustainable)
How many do you need to pack? Just 1.
Another staple for evening wear is the classic little black dress (LBD).
It’s timeless, easy to dress up or down, and can be worn for almost any occasion. Pack your favorite LBD, and you’ll have a go-to option for any evening plans.
And remember you can also wear your LBD with white sneakers + a linen shirt and look super stylish and comfortable while exploring your destination!
By planning your evening outfits in advance, you’ll save time and avoid the stress of figuring out what to wear last-minute!
Pro tip: Make sure to also pack a trendy pair of statement earrings or a cute headband to elevate your evening outfits. This is an often overlooked spring break packing tip, but it’s important if you want to look chic and stylish!

3. PACK THE RIGHT SHOES (you only need 3 or less!)
Packing shoes can quickly add up in terms of space and weight in your luggage. The good news? You only need three pairs that work for everything!
1️⃣ White leather sneakers are a must. They’re stylish, versatile, and comfortable for exploring, sightseeing, or casual strolls. A good pair of sneakers will keep you comfortable while still looking cute.
👟 These are the white leather sneakers I’ve traveled with for 3+ years!
2️⃣ Next, pack Birkenstocks or another comfy sandal. Perfect for the pool, beach, or just lounging around, they’re easy to slip on and off. Plus, they’re also comfortable for walking, so you can wear them for your everyday activities too.
I love waterproof Birkenstocks and this more ‘dressy’ style. But if I had to pick just one pair, it would be this one!
3️⃣ Lastly, flat leather sandals are a great option for an evening out. They’re perfect for dinner dates or a relaxed night out. They can be easily dressed up or down depending on the occasion.
Just keep in mind that these can be slippery! So if you’re heading somewhere that has cobblestone and steep streets, it’s better that you chose a different pair of ‘going out sandals’.
With these three pairs of shoes; white leather sneakers, Birkenstock sandals, and flat leather sandals, you’ll be ready for anything without over-packing!

4. MAKE SURE ALL YOUR TOPS MATCH YOUR BOTTOMS 👚👖
One of the smartest spring break packing tips I can share with you today, is to focus on a mix-and-match strategy.
By making sure all your tops pair with all your bottoms, you’ll have a ton of outfit options without overloading your suitcase.
Start by choosing neutral colors like black, brown, white, beige, or navy. These versatile hues make it easy to mix and match, so you don’t need to worry about bringing multiple separate outfits. Plus, it’s easier to add one or two printed pieces to make your spring break vacation outfits more fun!
There are 18 outfits right here ⬇️
A couple of well-chosen tops, like a simple tank top or a button down shirt, paired with different bottoms like denim shorts, skirts, or linen pants and the right accessories, will give you plenty of options for both casual and dressy looks.
This takes a little bit of time to master, but it is possible and it makes ALL the difference. And the best part? It doesn’t have to be boring! You’ll create super cute vacation outfits once you learn how to choose the right pieces.

5. CHALLENGE YOURSELF TO TRAVEL WITH CARRY-ON ONLY ✈️
One of the easiest ways to simplify your spring break packing is by committing to traveling with just a carry-on.
This not only saves time at the airport but also eliminates the risk of your luggage being lost. Plus, a smaller bag means you’ll move through the airport faster and won’t be stuck waiting at baggage claim.
The key to successful carry-on packing is to be intentional about what you bring. Stick to essentials and pack multi-purpose items that can serve you in a variety of situations.
You’d be surprised at how much you can fit into a carry-on when you pack thoughtfully!
Less stuff means more freedom to get to your vacation destination with ease and make the most of your trip! 🧳 (trust me on this one)
