Pearls have a very special meaning to me because they always remind me of home. Pearls are very popular in Venezuela (where I’m from and grew up in) and my mom wears them often. I’ve been exposed to beautiful pearls my entire life. I think they are classy and timeless and can upgrade any outfit in a second. You don’t have to wait for that special occasion to use your pearls or to actually buy them. You can literally wear a pearl necklace almost every single day and today, I’m going to show you how to wear pearls casually.
Keep in mind that even though in this post I’m only showing you how to wear a pearl necklace casually, you can also try to style any pearl piece you may own. Think outside the box and get creative with what you have. You can style your own pearl statement earrings, a pearl bracelet or even a pearl brooch. Just pick whatever piece you may have. My main goal with these posts is to inspire you to maximize what you have in your closet to create looks with things you already own.
Ok – Moving on to the actual looks with a pearl necklace.
This week I’m creating three casual looks with this beautiful pearl necklace I got from Golden Crown Jewelers. I was lucky enough to visit their store here in Chicago, located at Chicago’s famed “Jewelers Row” they’re found inside the Chicago Landmark Diamond Center at 1 North Wabash (First booth along the wall) and learn about pearls with Karen. She runs her family business along with her mom and her knowledge really blew my mind. Golden Crown Jewelers has been around since the mid 70’s and I honestly loved every piece of jewelry they had on display. It’s safe to say I wanted to take everything home!!

Can you see why I wanted everything?
The first necklace I’m styling is this beautiful 32″ natural colored Chinese Freshwater pearl necklace. These are about 9-9.5 mm in size, and show up nicely when worn long, doubled to be a choker or with a tied knot as you are about to see.
I choose to style it with embroidered jeans I got from Macy’s last year and a bell sleeved navy lace top. Of course I’m wearing espadrilles, because I never take these off during Spring and Summer. What do you guys think?

Look 2 – Wearing a pearl necklace with a little black dress
I created a second look with the same pearl necklace to show you another way to style it. I don’t think there’s a better match than a little black dress and a pearl necklace right? And just look at how you can also tie the necklace!

Look 3 – Post update – Wearing a pearl necklace casually for a different occasion
I’m adding this look from the future LOL. JK. I’m including it because even to this day (2021) I still wear this beautfiful necklace and these looks are still relevant. That’s why I’m an advocate for classic and timeless looks. It’s easier to maintain a wardrobe that looks modern without spending too much money every year.
I mainly wanted to show you how it looks doubled as a choker.

Pearl necklace #2 – Another casual look & a wedding look bonus!
If this is not the most beautiful necklace you’ve ever seen, then I don’t know what is. I fell in love of this one from the very first second I lay my eyes on it. Can you blame me?
This elegant and chic pearl necklace is made out of Chinese Freshwater “button Pearls”. They grew against the shell of the oyster so one side is flat while the other is dome. These have a very high luster and are double drilled, so they are strung to sit flat on the neck and not spin. This is a rarity in the industry as most button pearls are used for earrings. A whole necklace like this is really rare. You can see why I have a MAJOR CRUSH on this one, right?
It is by far the nicest thing I own, still to this day in 2021.
This beautiful necklace is obviously a piece you wear with a nice dress to go to a nice party, right!? And I will wear it that way too, but for today, I decided to create a casual look and show you how a pearl necklace upgrades any outfit and can be worn for any occasion. Kept it simple with an all black look and a printed jacket.

Although I don’t wear pearls myself I have a very special relationship to them. I think they make every woman look so incredibly elegant in an instant. My grandmother always wears them and she is the most sophisticated lady I know and there’s something about wearing pearls that indicates class and sophistication.
