“We wait all week for Friday, all year for summer & all life for happiness”
Hi guys. I wanted to share with you this quote because it says a lot about us. I’ve realized that being constantly waiting for something keeps you away from being happy. Life is happening right now, today, it doesn’t matter if it’s Monday or Friday or Fall or Winter. Life is happening today as it is, with what you have, so just go out and live it. Stop waiting for something else to happen.
I’m exhausted to put conditions to my happiness and well being. We always do that; don’t you realize? I’ll be happy when I get that promotion.
I’ll be happy when I get that job.
I’ll be happy when I’m married.
I’ll be happy when I have kids.
I’ll be happy when I have more money.
And the list goes on.
For me, when I was in Venezuela, I’d say to myself: I’ll be happy when I leave this country, but now that I’m here -even though it feels right and I know I made the right decision- why am I not happy? In my mind, a year ago this was everything I ever wanted and now that I have it, my condition to be happy is tied to something else and I need to stop doing this for my own sanity. This is no way of living.
So today, I’m happy is Monday, I’m saying “Welcome Fall” instead of saying good bye to summer and just living my life as it is today. Is not perfect, but what is? It is what I have right now and I’m grateful for it. But don’t get me wrong, I will continue to work hard to find my purpose and to be better than who I was yesterday, but I’m also going to appreciate a little more the things I do have today. Do you remember my post “30 Days of Gratitude”? I had to re-read it in order to remember how being grateful every day can make all the difference.
I’m thankful for every one of you and for taking 5 minutes of your time to stop by my blog. Let me dedicate at least four lines to my outfit hahaha. It seems that every time I start writing a post I don’t feel like writing about fashion, maybe I should consider changing the name “Ways of Style” lol.
Ok, back to business. Stop the ADD. Gosh if you could hear what’s inside my head 24/7.
Anyway, this black and white (B&W) outfit is so classic and easy to assemble. I actually didn’t plan this post. I was with my parents hanging around downtown and I had my camera, so I went for it. Gosh, it’s so embarrassing to take pictures in the middle of the street hahaha I still don’t get use to it.
A B&W can look boring sometimes if you don’t add that little something extra, that little “YOU”. This time I went with Print Mixing 101: Different shapes, same colors. Here you can find another “Print Mixing” attempt of mine. I also added a little POC (Pop of Color) with these amazing and comfy red lace ups. They are only $45 and here you can check out every available color. You’re welcome!
Here’s also a list of my favorite items for fall, so you can start saying “Welcome Fall” in style 😉
Well guys, as usual I hope you leave this website feeling inspired & positive. Thank you so much for stopping by and have a great week ahead. Please remember these three things:
- Say Thank You!
- Do not condition your happiness with anything.
- Don’t ask for more if you are not taking care of what you have today.
Best vibes,
XO,
PD: I’m at Mariano’s right now because I missed my train and the next one is in two hours (Thank you Metra for weekend schedules) and there’s this guy who bought an entire gallon of Ice Cream and just ate it all in like 5 mins. So jealous. That’s some talent right there.
SHOP THE LOOK:
The bracelets are from The Peach Box. Check them out here. They are beautiful, high quality & super accessible.

As you know, and as you also do, I love quotes! I drain my quote-addiction in my exclusive “Quotes” Pinterest board, which has over 600 pins (which means +600 quotes!). However, there is only one that made it to my fridge. Right there I get to see it every single day, after I wake up and I’m making coffee (a.k.a trying to survive after waking up). The quote says:
“There are only moments. Live in this one. The happiness of these days”.
So yes, I might be graduate-student-poor, not married to the guy sleeping next to me, sleep deprived. I can’t afford to get manis and pedis every two weeks, and I have to-do list that never seems to shorten. However, I can afford flowers for my coffee table, I can drink coffee every morning, I get to experience seasons, I have Netflix! This quote reminds me that things might not be perfect, but I need to rejoice in their imperfectness anyways. I know that someday I will look back to the graduate-student-poor, unmarried, sleep deprived days nostalgically. And I will regret it if I do not enjoy “the happiness of these days”.
Sorry for the long comment! I just wanted you to know you’re not the only one having to use daily reminders in order to keep happiness from being tied to a current situation ☺️
Love you! ?
Vivi, this is beautiful. That thing you said about looking back and miss a certain situation you were in happens to me a lot.
You know that saying: “I was happy and I didn’t know it”? (Era feliz y no lo sabia jajaja) Well I think is time to live in the moment and be happy about it. That way when you look back you’ll say: “I was happy and I enjoyed that situation and I’m glad it happened that way”.
We are so blessed to be here and there are so many beautiful things in our life that it would be almost selfish not to say “Thanks” everyday.
And about “The guy sleeping next to you” not being your husband, well, let me tell you: Is way much better and sweeter to have a boyfriend for ever lol. I always hated the word “husband” (It makes you look older by the way hahaha)
Love you Vivi! Counting the days for March!

It’s hard, but really, if we keep waiting for things to happen, there will always be an excuse to delay our happiness and that is just not right!
