A few months ago I was in a very dark place, I’m not going to describe every little detail because for that I’ll have to dig a little deeper and frankly I’m not quite ready to go there yet. But this I will tell you; it’s unbelievable how your life can change just by saying the two magic words: “Thank you”. I wasn’t sure about committing to the 30 days of gratitude challenge but I’m so glad I did, because it really changed everything for me.
So, here’s my story.
It all started one day when I was randomly going through Instagram and I found this quote on Giuliana Rancic’s page:
At that moment, I really needed help. So, I immediately went to her Website to read the entire article. I wish I could still share it with you, but it seems like it was deleted, so I’ll do my best to explain what this whole ’30 days of gratitude’ thing is all about.
I have to admit I was a little reluctant at first. How can your life change just by being grateful? I asked myself. But at that point I was so desperate for a change, that I decided to give it a try and the results have been nothing but positive as well as surprising.
The 30 Days of Gratitude challenge consists on simply saying thank you to whoever you want to say thanks to, for any reason you feel you should be grateful for. Simple, right? Well, not so much.
Life and routine, sometimes makes you forget that every day you get to live and breathe is a blessing and you should be grateful for it. It doesn’t matter who you say thank you to. During the first days I started doing this “challenge” I must admit that there were days where I couldn’t even think of one reason to be thankful for.. And how lost was I? I mean, I couldn’t even realize how blessed I was just for the fact that I was alive and healthy… How come I’ve never done this in so long? When did I stop being grateful?
When did money, work, and all kinds of shallow stuff became more important that health, life and family?
I’m not saying I don’t like good stuff or that I don’t want to make money or be successful not at all, I want all those things but now that I’m being grateful for moments and intangible things, I just feel that I get to enjoy the ride and live one day at a time.
However, after 30 days of doing this I realize I was being kind of repetitive. So, what happens when you start saying thank you for the same reasons every single day? Well, the same that happens when you say I love you always the same way every single day. You feel it but you don’t feeeeeeel it, you know what I mean? The words may come out of your mouth but the other person doesn’t seem to be exactly convinced about what you are saying.
So, this led me to discover all the things you can say thanks for in one day. Here are some examples of some of the things I’ve said thanks for. I’m giving you this info because I don’t want you to get bored of practicing this and saying thanks everyday for the same things like health, life, your job, family etc. My advice is that you try to be more specific so you can make it a habit. Here we go: (Don’t judge)
– Thank you; because it stopped raining when I was going outside and I didn’t know where my umbrella was.
– Thank you; because I was strong enough and I didn’t eat that pasta for dinner last night.
– Thank you; because I found this lovely boots on sale and they had my size.
– Thank you for this new marketing plan I got to do and thank you for this new opportunity I have to help someone with their business. (I have a social media/marketing company & it’s hard to get new clients when you are just getting started)
– Thank you; because I found a lucky penny on the street and thank you because I still believe it will actually bring me luck (I still have the penny by the way).
– Thank you for all the amazing people I met today.
And the list goes on… So, what are some of the things you are thankful for?
It took me so long to write this post, because this is a fashion and style blog and this is not exactly fashion, but it is style.
